Nakovana is an ancient village located high on the hill above Viganj on the Pelješac Peninsula. It was mostly abandoned in the early 1970’s, but a few from Nakovana’s most recent generation have returned to restore the village. Nakovana is one of the oldest villages in Croatia, and the immediate area was inhabited by Illyrians as far back as 8,000 years. The village is quite near the recent major archaeological discovery of an Illyrian cave temple.
